I had my first National of 2009 in Port Elizabeth.
It was a tough one as the new Vortex Super Rok rules stipulate that we have to use a smaller diameter Carburettor. So this changes the settings from last year. Our aim was to bag as many points as possible as it is the opening round to the National Series of this year. The Kart and team set up turned out to be very competitive.
We qualified 3rd on the grid with a local star, Simon Moss on pole. The first Heat was good, we finished 3rd and got quickest lap, which gave us pole for the 2nd heat. My Engineer and I did some set up changes to the kart, adjusted the tyre pressure and the 2nd heat went better, we finished 2nd and had quickest lap again, which gave us pole for the last heat. The last heat did not go as planned as my tyres wore faster than I?d hoped. I fought all the way through that heat and managed to get 5th.
This gave us a tie for 2nd for the day. My team and I are very happy with this performance.
I would like to thank my Engineer and my team for all their hard work.
My next National is in Cape Town on the 2nd of May 2009.
Till then…..
