My first blog!

my-first-blog-16207Hi everyone!
My first blog here, woohoo!!

I?ll start with a bit of my race history to introduce myself.
In 1979 (I was 9 years old) I started working at Rob Slotemakers slip school, after Rob died and Jan Lammers became the new owner. I worked there every weekend, wednesday afternoon and all my vacations until 1986 when Jan sold the school to Interstate.

In those years I drove a lot of cars and karts.

During Formula 1 events I drove a Talbot Horizon at the slip school and visitors could drive with me.
In full speed I drove them over the wet track and threw the car in a 360 degrees slip. Very spectacular it was, as a 11 or 12 year old kid. I made a lot of money with that I can tell you! ;-)

So.. I was able to buy my first 125cc kart and a Simca 1000 when I was 10 years old, which was pretty unusual at that age!

After I quit at the slip school, I started racing karts in the 100cc 2-stroke classes in many national and international race evens.
Between 1996 and 2003 I?ve been an official driver for Arisco and Kombikart and I competed in European-, Turkish-, Belgium-, Dutch- and many other championships for 20 years.
Fun thing is that I raced karts with the biggest part of 2009 formula 1 drivers.

In 2002 I wanted to switch to Formula 3, but 3 weeks before the start of the season my sponsor decided to switch to another race class, so I had to stay in karts until 2007.

my-first-blog-14940In 2007 I switched to the Dutch Porsche 944 cup because I just love the model and the excellent driving of this car.
Many ?real? Porsche fans think the 944 is not a real Porsche but a flat Volkswagen; they just forget that this model kept the Porsche factory alive in the mid 80?s and that the driving quality of a 944 is better than a 911!

In 2008 I won just 1 race and finished 11th in the championship competing 6 out of 10 races.

Last year I just missed the title after a bad season start but scoring 8 podiums.

2009 should be my year! My team (Giallo racing) is an excellent team and we have a lot of support from Moritz Racing.

Spoken about Moritz Racing; coming Thursday (april 2nd) I?ll be testing their Marcos at the Zolder track in Belgium to prepare myself for the Zolder 24 hour race in August!

Keep checking my blog for more spectacular news in May!

Regards,
Milko Mebus
